Many people think bats (蝙蝠) are blind, but this is not true. Bats can see, but not very well at night. So how do they find their way in the dark? They use sound! This is called “echolocation” (回声定位).
Bats make high-frequency sounds (高频声音) when they fly. These sounds hit things like trees or insects and bounce back (反弹回来). The bat’s big ears catch the returning sounds. Its brain then makes a “picture” of what is around. This helps the bat know where to go and find food.
Most bats eat insects. One bat can eat hundreds of insects in one hour. They are very helpful to farmers. Some bats also eat fruit or drink nectar (花蜜) from flowers. They help flowers grow by carrying pollen (花粉).
Bats usually sleep during the day and become active at night. They live in groups in dark places like caves or old buildings. Sadly, many bats are in danger now because they are losing their homes. We need to protect these amazing and useful animals.
15. How do bats find their way in the dark?
A. By using their good eyes. B. By using sound.
